Agricultural production » Organic farming
Organic farming is an ideal means of directing the company towards a standard of quality which involves man, the environment and the products .
It begins with the choice of grape varieties and clones selected from the local farming traditions of the area. For this purpose we preserve our old vines and old olive trees in order to have plants which are particularly suitable to soil and climate conditions in the area . Our vineyards and olive groves are bordered by hedges and woodlands which are extremely important to the ecological balance of the land. The defence of the land is entrusted to permanent or temporary grassing and to an accurate irrigation system.
The protection of the crop begins with suitable organic fertilisation, with low-dosage copper treatments, with sulphur and bentonite. The pruning and the growing systems represent an indispensable support for maximising the effectiveness of these treatments.
In addition, the thinning out and the selection of the grapes at the moment of harvesting enable us to bring only healthy grapes into our cellars which do not require any particular treatment during the winemaking process, if not low dosages of sulphur dioxide, without however, ever exceeding the levels of 30 ppm of free sulphur dioxide.

The Organic Certification Body chosen by the company is the Consortium for the Control of Organic Products, with head offices in Bologna.
This body is recognised and authorised to carry out this role by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture . At least twice a year the Consotium's inspectors control all of the Company's administrative and productive phases.
What is organic farming?
Organic farming is a system based on today's ecological awareness. In fact it is this attention to maintaining the natural balance between all living organisms which allows for a correct growth of plants.
Organic Farming is governed by European and Italian regulations which establish the level of human intervention allowed, the control procedures and the relative commercial legislation. It utilises only pesticides which are non-toxic to both humans and to the environment.
Organic farming is the only agro-food sector which controls and certifies its products, from production to transformation and distribution. In winemaking in order to produce a good quality wine it is necessary to firstly produce good grapes with a high sugar content , using suitable vines and preferring local grape varieties, in order to avoid the need for additives at the cellar stage.
The wine produced by organic farming methods is the result of a production process which has not harmed the environment and which has shown respect for both animals and plants.
This wine is free from additives and other harmful substances; it is a safe and guaranteed product. Organically produced wine requires a greater amount of both manual work and of expertise than other wines. For this reason it is slighty more expensive.
